The Value of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), such as Family Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurse First Assistants, provide significant benefits to patients and the healthcare system as a whole. Angela Mealing, APRN, MSN, RNFA, is a vital member of our surgical team, bringing advanced clinical knowledge and surgical skill to each patient interaction.

1. Expanded Access to Expert Care

APRNs are highly trained clinicians who can evaluate patients, perform physical exams, diagnose medical conditions, and prescribe treatments. Angela not only manages routine patient needs but also plays a key role in perioperative care and post-surgical recovery. Her ability to treat patients directly allows for more timely care and reduces wait times, improving the overall patient experience.

2. Surgical Expertise and Hands-On Support

As a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA), Angela is certified to work alongside surgeons during complex operations. She assists with tasks such as suturing, tissue handling, and wound closure, enhancing surgical efficiency and patient safety. This advanced training allows her to contribute meaningfully in the operating room, especially during orthopedic and limb restoration procedures.

3. Personalized, Team-Based Care

APRNs like Angela work closely with physicians, surgeons, nurses, and other specialists to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care. They often serve as a bridge between the patient and the wider care team.  Physician Assistants help ensure that treatment plans are communicated and followed. Angela’s compassionate approach and attention to detail consistently earn praise from patients and colleagues alike.

While APRNs may not perform every function of a physician, their advanced training, clinical experience, and commitment to patient care make them indispensable in modern healthcare. Angela plays a vital role in our practice, supporting surgical outcomes, enhancing access to care, and building strong relationships with patients every step of the way.
